The DS8178 is the cordless Bluetooth version of the popular USB corded DS8108 scanner. The Bluetooth DS8178 has all of the same great features as the corded DS8180 but with the added convenience of scanning mobility due to its cordless Bluetooth design. The DS8178 Bluetooth 2D area imager barcode scanner is designed to offer optimum performance in demanding scanning environments with its high end 800 MHz microprocessor for lightning-fast scan speeds, and its onboard PRZM Intelligent Imaging technology enabling the DS8178 to easily read poorly printed/damaged barcodes giving the scanner a superior first-time read rate capability. The advanced Multi-code Data Formatting (MDF) feature provides the ability to selectively send specific scanned data to an application, and its impressive depth of field (scan distance from barcode) allows for super-fast scanning of bulky items from up to 2 feet away. Furthermore, this advanced engineered scanner is future-proofed to read the next generation Digimarc® digital watermark technology barcodes.

The DS8178-DL model adds the feature of reading driver's licenses for ID/age verification with the ability to send the data parsed to a point of sale system or other compatible application.
